Discover a story that is almost 70 years old...

1954

Our story begins in 1954, when Fernando Almeida Alves de Sousa, at the age of 36 and father of the current Chairman of the Board, acquired a minority stake in SOIMGRA - Sociedade Importadora de Material Gráfico.

1960

Fernando Almeida Alves de Sousa acquired the remaining shares, taking full ownership of the company. At that time, SOIMGRA represented several companies, including the German MERCEDES (letterpress printing machines), the Swiss COLOR-METAL (offset printing machines), and the French V. BOUZARD (pre-press equipment).

1961

A representation agreement was established with MGD-MIEHLE-GOSS-DEXTER, an American manufacturer of newspaper printing presses. Initially, SOIMGRA, and later TECNIMPRENSA, led the newspaper printing press market in Portugal.

1963

The son and current Chairman of the Board, Fernando, at 17, left his studies and began working at SOIMGRA.

1965

Representation agreement was signed with BICICI, an Italian manufacturer of flexographic printing presses, rotogravure, extruders, laminators, and rewinding cutters, resulting in the sale and installation of about 25 machines over a decade.

1966

Representation agreement was signed with FERAG, a Swiss manufacturer of newspaper dispatch systems for transporting and stacking printed copies at the output of newspaper printing presses. SOIMGRA held a 100% market share for the FERAG brand for nearly 20 years, with key clients including DIÁRIO DE LISBOA, JORNAL DE NOTÍCIAS, DIÁRIO POPULAR, and O COMÉRCIO DO PORTO.

1970

The first GOSS printing press, a Metroliner, was sold to Diário Popular and installed in the basement of the newspaper’s building in Bairro Alto.

1971

Representation agreement was signed with CROSFIELD ELECTRONICS, a British manufacturer of studio scanners. Several pieces of equipment were sold and installed, which significantly contributed to the technological breakthrough in the graphic arts sector in Portugal, revolutionizing the possibilities for image assembly in studios.

1973

The first CROSFIELD scanner was sold to the pre-press company SIMÃO GUIMARÃES and installed on José Falcão Street in Porto.

1978

Under the leadership of the patriarch and managing partner of SOIMGRA, TECNIMPRENSA was founded as the group's second company. It later came under the leadership of his son, Fernando Jorge, with the collaboration of his brother, Rui Alves de Sousa.

1980

A flexographic printing press was sold to MIRANDELA Artes Gráficas for printing Totobola bulletins.

1985

SOIMGRA ceased its activities following the retirement of founder Fernando Almeida Alves de Sousa.

1990

A representation agreement was signed with X-RITE, a U.S. manufacturer of densitometers, colorimeters, and spectrophotometers. One of the world’s fastest newspaper printing presses, a GOSS Visa, was sold to MIRANDELA ARTES GRÁFICAS for printing A BOLA, PÚBLICO, and a wide range of regional newspapers.

The first newspaper printing press was sold to UNIPRESS for printing the Northern editions of A BOLA and PÚBLICO.

1995

Venda da primeira rotativa de jornal à UNIPRESS para imprimir as edições Norte d’A BOLA e do PÚBLICO.

1996

An offset printing press for magazines, a BAKER PERKINS G16, was sold to MIRANDELA.

1996

Duarte Alves de Sousa completed his degree in Business Administration at the Catholic University of Porto and began his career at Tecnimprensa at the age of 24.

2000

The largest newspaper printing press in Portugal, a GOSS Universal 70, was sold to EMPRESA GRÁFICA FUNCHALENSE to print the Southern editions of A BOLA, DIÁRIO DE NOTÍCIAS, and JORNAL DE NOTÍCIAS in Sintra.

2000

Representation agreement was singned with PANTONE.

2002

Diogo Alves de Sousa, a Mechanical Engineering graduate from the University of Minho with a professional background at AutoSueco, began his career at Tecnimprensa at the age of 28.

2004

Representation agreement was signed with TIMSONS, a manufacturer of offset printing presses for books.

2006

Representation agreement was signed with ROLLIN, a manufacturer of rubber rollers for offset printing. A second printing press, a GOSS Uniliner, was sold to UNIPRESS for printing the Northern editions of CORREIO DA MANHÃ and RECORD.

2007

The company began its international expansion with operations in Angola.

2008

A GOSS Universal 80 offset newspaper printing press was sold to DAMER GRÁFICAS, becoming the first new press to be installed in Angola.

2010

A TIMSONS offset book printing press was sold to DAMER GRÁFICAS.

A representation agreement was signed with SOLEMA, an Italian manufacturer of automation modules for book finishing lines and machines for producing dividers for corrugated or pressed cardboard boxes.

2012

Duarte Alves de Sousa is invited by his father Fernando Alves de Sousa and his brother Diogo to assume the role of General Manager.

2014

Tecnimprensa is transformed into a public limited company.

2014

A representation agreement was signed with KODAK for offset plates, Computer-to-Plate equipment, and digital printing machines for the Angolan market.

2014

The first KODAK Nexpress was sold to OXIGEN in Angola. Venda da primeira KODAK Nexpress à OXIGEN, Angola.

A representation agreement was also established with SISTRADE, a Portuguese company specializing in integrated industrial management software for the graphic and packaging industries, for the Angolan market.

2016

A representation agreement was signed with POLYMOUNT, a Dutch manufacturer of self-adhesive plate sleeves and inventor of the plate-washing machine.

2018

A representation agreement was signed with BLUMER, a manufacturer of die-cutting machines for labels, for the Angolan market.

The first flexographic printing machine was sold to Angola.

2019

Representation agreements were signed with SOMA ENGINEERING, a Czech manufacturer of flexographic printing presses and rewinding cutters, and with ECOGRAPH, a Swiss manufacturer of doctor-blades.

2022

Creation of the character Tec.
